The goal of secondments is to provide direct hands-on research and cutting edge technology experience to ENTRY-DM doctoral candidates. The ENTRY-DM DCs will gain experience with innovation in academic and non-academic contexts and focus on a research problem that fits with their individual PhD projects.

From 1 March to 31 May 2026, I completed a secondment at GENARTIS srl in Verona, Italy. During my secondment, I worked on the molecular characterization of CTG/CCTG repeat expansions in the DMPK/CNBP genes using PacBio long-read sequencing. I observed the DNA extraction and library preparation workflows used prior to sequencing. I then performed the analysis and interpretation of sequencing data, focusing on repeat length and structure, repeat interruptions, somatic mosaicism, and DNA methylation patterns in DM1 and DM2 samples. In addition, I gained practical experience in basic cell culture techniques.
